We started off our day at the Pearl Harbor Memorial where we reflected and learned a lot about the great sacrifices that were made for our country. We learned that even over 4,000 miles away from Bullis we are still able to find connection. A former teacher, Mr. Alan Shapley who served in the Marine Corps on the USS Arizona survived the attack. He was blown off of the ship and saved two other individuals from the horrific scene. When he retired from the military in 1962 he taught Mechanical Drawing at Bullis.  It was a great connection between our school's history and the beautiful memorial!

After watching a short documentary explaining why the attack happened and the aftermath, we were able to take a short boat ride to visit the memorial. We were able to reflect and respect the fallen heroes and the survivors during this time.

We also had the opportunity to meet one of the survivors that proudly and gallantly served on December 7, 1941 in Pearl Harbor. He wrote a book called A True American and was doing a book signing outside the Pearl Harbor Visitor Center. Our favorite thing that he did was whenever someone was taking a picture with him instead of saying "Cheese" he said, "Ready, Aim, Fire." I thought he was a "True American" through and through. We are very grateful for the opportunity Bullis gave us to meet this individual and thank him for his service.

After visiting the historical memorial at Pearl Harbor we ate lunch at various places including some local cuisine. One place that we went to eat was at a restaurant that served traditional Japanese food such as dumplings and noodles. Our favorite thing we ate was the steamed shrimp dumplings! The sweet savory taste was delicious!

Next we had the option to go to the pool or the beach. A group of people went to the beach and we swam around or surfed in the ocean. Some people even saw a sea turtle  and we had to be very careful about them living in the rocks! Maya even tried out surfing and since private lessons were to expensive, Sienna attempted to help Maya out. Maya ended out wiping out a few times, trying to stand on the board.

We are excited to head to a Macadamia Nut Farm and Secret Island tomorrow!
