Water Sports at Maunalua Bay & Chief's Luau!

Today we split into two groups and had fun doing various water sports at Maunalua Bay!

Bumper tube is an activity where you lay on a big tube with a few friends and get pulled around by a jet ski. We had to hold on tight so we wouldn't get thrown off during the waves. It was so fun when we fell off and had to swim to get back onto the tube! 

Banana Boat riding in an activity where you ride a boat that looks like two slice of bananas! We had to sit straddled over one side and hope we don't fall off! It is a very thrilling and exhilarating experience. We loved it (even the falling off!) and we highly recommend it! 

 Our chaperones and one of our friends also rode Jet Skis! It was fun to watch them zip over the waves from the Activity Barge and wave to them as they went by! 

After we returned from our day with h20Water Sports we grabbed lunch in Waikiki and headed out to the Chief's Luau!

When we got to the luau there was a fire starting contest, spray on tattoos and headband weaving with Hawaiian leaves! We all tried to start a fire but we couldn't get the technique down. Next, we watched traditional dances from some islands such as Fiji, Samoa, Tahiti, and Polynesian Islands. We watched as the Chief called up anyone on their honeymoon or celebrating anniversaries and spoke about love, family and caring for each other. The couples then shared a special dance! Lastly, the men of the Luau showed us their skill with knife fire dancing. A lot of the men were World Champion Fire Dancers! We were in awe. 

For dinner, we were served a roasted pig that they cooked in the ground 3-5 hours, it gave it a great smoky taste! There was also pineapple cake, taro bread, fish, pork and chicken with lots of veggies & fresh fruit! We also celebrated Ajay's birthday, even though it is tomorrow, we thought it would be fun to celebrate at the Luau!

 We learned a lot and had a blast on our last night in Hawaii! We can't wait to go hiking tomorrow at Diamond Head!

Our Day in Pearl Harbor & Waikiki!  Blog by:  Victoria, Sienna, Maya, Hannah, Gabbi and Clarke We started off our day at the Pearl Harbor Memorial where we reflected and learned a lot about the great sacrifices that were made for our country. We learned that even over 4,000 miles away from Bullis we are still able to find connection. A former teacher, Mr. Alan Shapley who served in the Marine Corps on the USS Arizona survived the attack. He was blown off of the ship and saved two other individuals from the horrific scene. When he retired from the military in 1962 he taught Mechanical Drawing at Bullis.  It was a great connection between our school's history and the beautiful memorial! After watching a short documentary explaining why the attack happened and the aftermath, we were able to take a short boat ride to visit the memorial. Kualoa Ranch - Secret Island!

Our day on Hawaii's Secret Island - Kualoa Ranch! Blog by: Will, Mateo, Ajay & Tom Today we spent time at Kualoa Ranch's Secret Island! Once our bus dropped us off we had to take a boat to the Secret Island entrance. We wanted to start our experience by playing volleyball in the relaxing sand. Will's serves improved, and everyone enjoyed the time spent spiking and serving. We also crowded around as exciting games of ping-pong went back and forth. Whether you used accuracy, strength, or endurance, it was a great time for all! After we played beach games we jumped into the water! Some of us tried stand up paddle boarding and some of us tried kayaking. We had so much fun seeing how many people could pile on top of one paddle board! We also traveled the seas looking for turtles and down at the coral. Arrived in Hawaii!

Aloha! Welcome to our Bullis Middle School Global Studies Hawaii blog! We will be sure to update this page with lots of pictures and blog posts from our students while we are away. After a long flight we finally made it to Honolulu! We got settled in our hotel and took a walk around Waikiki to learn more about the area we will be staying in! We made a quick stop at the famous Waikiki Beach before heading to the pool for a pizza dinner and relaxation! Despite our exhaustion we all had a great time playing in the pool before heading back to get a good night's sleep! Today, we will visit Pearl Harbor and the USS Arizona Memorial as well as some local government buildings! We are looking forward to our fun filled days here in Oahu! Stay tuned!
